Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach, also known as Breiðamerkursandur, is a striking black sand beach located on Iceland’s southeast coast, directly across from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Here, icebergs from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier drift through the lagoon and wash ashore, creating a mesmerizing contrast of glittering ice against volcanic sand . Approximately a 5-hour drive (370 km) from Reykjavík via Route 1, the beach is accessible year-round and offers views of seals and, occasionally, orcas offshore . While swimming is prohibited due to freezing waters and strong currents, visitors can enjoy the natural beauty from the shore.
