Indianapolis Central Canal

The Ohio River was to be connected to the Wabash and Erie Canals by the Indiana Central Canal. The Mammoth Internal Improvement Act, Indiana’s effort to join the canal-building frenzy sparked by the Erie Canal, provided the funding for it. The project received the greatest allocation of the $10 million Act, $3.5 million.
