Castle Hill of Nice

A military stronghold, the Castle of Nice was built. Constructed atop a hill, it provided a view of Nice Bay from the eleventh to the eighteenth centuries. It was repeatedly besieged, most notably in 1543 and 1691, before French forces captured it in 1705 and Louis XIV ordered its destruction in 1706.
