Hverir

Hverir, also known as Námafjall Geothermal Area, is a striking geothermal field located near Lake Mývatn in North Iceland, just off Route 1. This otherworldly landscape features steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pots, and vividly colored mineral deposits, all set against the backdrop of the reddish slopes of Mount Námafjall. The area is characterized by a strong sulfur smell due to the geothermal activity, and the ground is largely devoid of vegetation because of the acidic soil.
