Port Royal, Jamaica

Southeast Jamaica’s Port Royal settlement is situated near the mouth of Kingston Harbour, at the foot of the Palisadoes. Established by the Spanish in 1494, it was formerly the biggest and wealthiest city in the Caribbean, serving as the hub for trade and shipping in the Caribbean Sea by the second half of the 17th century.
