Teatro Nacional Costa Rica

The National Theatre of Costa Rica, which seats 1,140 people, is located in San José’s centre district. Construction began in 1891, and was opened to the public on October 21, 1897, with a production of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Faust. The National Theatre served as a cultural asset for the country during a period when coffee exports were a source of prosperity.
