Some of nature’s best-kept secrets are tucked away and only accessible to the most intrepid explorers. The earth’s interior can be explored without being a die-hard adventurer, though. Explore these great caves in southeast Canada by going underground.

#5 The Lusk Cave

Lusk Cave is one of those things you should do if you visit gatineau park. This hidden gem is a marble cave which is thousands of years old.

How did it form? There was a large glacier that melted and its water got trapped under it, making cracks in the rocks.

#4 Déléage Cave

The Stone Bridge Trail (pont de pierre) in Déléage, Quebec, actually takes you to an underground cave system. The water inside is not too deep (only to your ankles), so you can walk around without trouble. 

Many interesting hiking trails are located in Déléage, but unfortunately it’s still a hidden gem. Located in the tourist region of Outaouais, about 276 kilometres from Montréal; Déléage was the name given to the town in 1930. It was named after Jean-Francois-Regis Déléage, a well-known Outaouais missionary.

#3 The Laflèche Cave

The Laflèche Cave is the Canadian Shield’s largest cave. It offers a one-of-a-kind underground adventure in this cave, which is full of surprises and discoveries. In the winter, you can see ice stalactites and stalagmites, as well as strange pathways and relics from previous millennia. Furthermore, the cave’s history is littered with incredible anecdotes and mysteries.

#2 The Bonnechere Caves

The Bonnechere Caves in Eganville, Ontario, have been welcoming people from all over the world for over 55 years. Guided tours leave every twenty to thirty minutes and last approximately one hour except for weekdays in September when the tours are at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.

#1 Greig’s Caves

You’ll feel a sense of adventure as you explore these limestone caves on the Bruce Peninsula. The trail stars off in the woods and slowly gets you to the cave where you’ll encounter rugged trails through large stones. The caves are open for visitors to self-guide, however some areas are restricted due to dangerous rocky terrain.
